| Exodus/Shmot 13:21 | And G-d went with them during the day as a pillar of cloud to guide them, and at night as a pillar of fire to light their way, to by day and by night.
| 13:22 | The pillar of cloud did not stop during the day, and the pillar of fire never left the nation at night. | לֹא־יָמִישׁ עַמּוּד הֶעָנָן יוֹמָם וְעַמּוּד הָאֵשׁ לָיְלָה לִפְנֵי הָעָם׃ |
Note: this snack cannot be made on Shabbat as presented; modifications will be necessary. This snack was made as part of my “snowed in… make a nosh with what I have in the house” project.
Ingredients as shown:
- Popping Corn or popped popcorn
- Butter (salt and granulated garlic optional), or white chocolate
- 4 dried apricots (or more, if desired)
Tools:
- Scissors (child scissors are fine)
- Popcorn Popper (optional)
Instructions:
- Pop corn, if starting with unpopped popcorn.

2. Melt butter (or have on the top of the popcorn popper, if popping), adding salt (if using unsalted butter) and granulated garlic.

3. Dipping one piece of popped corn in the butter at a time, make a bottom layer of the cloud, and build up to form a cloud. The butter will solidify to hold the popped corn together, though not very firmly (white chocolate will hold more firmly, but I didn’t have it).

4. Taking one dried apricot at a time, cut into points. Try to make gradually large pieces, eventually taking two pieces to make the bottom layer or two. Stack the layers to form a column of fire.

6. Enjoy!
