Tomato Timbrel

Exodus/Shmot 15:20And Miriam the prophet, the sister of Aaron, took the timbrel in her hand, and led all of the women in dancing with timbrels.

Ingredients as shown:

  • 1 tomato
  • Olives or string cheese

Tools:

  • Paring knife

Instructions:

  1. Slice top and bottom off of the tomato. What is left should be between 1/2″ and 1″, depending on the size of your tomato (I had campari tomatoes, so it was relatively small).

2. Cut out center of tomato.

3. Carefully placing a cheese stick (or cucumber end) on the inside of the cored-out tomato, poke holes all around the tomato, leaving enough space between holes such that when widened the holes will still remain individual holes. If you have a larger tomato and are ambitious, you can make two parallel holes to make room for two inserted “bells.”

4. Slice your “bells” such that they are as thin as possible while still being stiff enough to poke through the holes.

5. Place a “bell” on your paring knife to see how far you will need to poke the knife in the tomato so the bells will fit.

6. Carefully poke paring knife into holes one at a time, deep enough to allow insertion of bells.

7. Insert “bells” all around; buon appetite!
