Where do you get your ideas?
- I read through the parsha, trying to visualize as I go. I then try to imagine shapes and textures, big pictures or details, and try to match the picture to ingredients. Some weeks give me lots of options, sometimes I have to really reach.
How to do you choose translations?
- Unless specifically noted, I translate the Hebrew myself. However, I generally include links to Sefaria.com so that you can look at the entire text or read other translations.
Why does the Hebrew sometimes have a ה instead of G-d’s name, or a ק substituted for the ה?
- As I have been updating the web site, I have realized some people may be printing pages from it. G-d name should be treated with reverence; it is our law that anything with G-d’s name printed on it should be buried in a cemetery, rather than simply recycled or put in the trash. As such, I have recently taken to making substitutions (when I remember) to avoid putting people in an awkward position.
- I do hope, at some point, to have these Noshes printed in a book (it would certainly be cheaper to buy a book than to print out lots of color photos!). This would also allow people to review it on Shabbat. If that occurs, the printed book, which would presumably be used again and again, may have the name of G-d spelled out, but we shall see.
