Numbers 16:1 | And Korach, the son of Yitzhar, the son of Kehat, the son of Levi, AND Datan and Aviram, the sons of Aliav, AND On, the son of Pelet, (Datan, Aviram, and On) were from the tribe of Reuven | וַיִּקַּח קֹרַח בֶּן־יִצְהָר בֶּן־קְהָת בֶּן־לֵוִי וְדָתָן וַאֲבִירָם בְּנֵי אֱלִיאָב וְאוֹן בֶּן־פֶּלֶת בְּנֵי רְאוּבֵן׃ |
16:2 | and they rose before Moshe and men from the Children of Israel: 250 leaders of the community, who were well known, | וַיָּקֻמוּ לִפְנֵי מֹשֶׁה וַאֲנָשִׁים מִבְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל חֲמִשִּׁים וּמָאתָיִם נְשִׂיאֵי עֵדָה קְרִאֵי מוֹעֵד אַנְשֵׁי־שֵׁם׃ |
16:3 | and went as a group to stand against Moshe and Aharon, and said to them: too much is yours! The entire community is holy, and G-d is in its midst. Why are you in charge of the congregation of G-d?
* * * | * * * | * * * |
17:16 | And G-d said to Moshe: |
17:17 | Speak to the children if Israel, and take a staff from the chieftan of each ancestral tribe, twelve staffs, and have each chieftan write his name on his own staff.
17:18 | And you shall write Aharon’s name on the staff for the tribe of Levi, because there shall be one staff for the head of each tribe.
17:19 | And you shall lay the staffs in the Tent of Meeting before the Testimony, where I meet with you; | וְהִנַּחְתָּם בְּאֹהֶל מוֹעֵד לִפְנֵי הָעֵדוּת אֲשֶׁר אִוָּעֵד לָכֶם שָׁמָּה׃ |
17:20 | And the staff of the man who whom I will choose will bloom. And in this way I will stop the complaints that the children of Israel are lodging against you.
17:21 | And Moshe spoke to the children of Israel, and all of its tribal leaders gave him their staffs, twelve staffs, plus the staff of Aharon, which was added to their staffs.
17:22 | And Moshe lay the staffs before G-d in the Tent of Testimony, |
17:23 | And it was in the morning, when Moshe came to the Tent of Testimony, and he found that the staff belonging to Aharon, of the tribe of Levi, was blooming. And the blossom had budded, and had produced almonds.
Ingredients as shown:
- 1 Pretzel Rod
- Powdered Sugar (about 1 tablespoon)
- Almond slices (can substitute pumpkin seeds)
- 2 golden raisins
Tools:
- Bowl
- Scissors
- Something with which to stir
Instructions:
- Put powdered sugar in a bowl. Add just enough water, a few drops, to make a thick paste, and mix to combine.
- Dip the fat edge of the almond slices in the sugar paste and arrange 5 at a time in the shape of a flower.
Repeat until you have all of the flowers you want to make.
3. If your golden raisins are too large for the flower, cut them in half.
4. Dip the edge of each raisin piece in the sugar paste (for stability, it will stick even without the extra sugar) and press in the center of each flower.
