Cloud Covered Mishkan

Numbers /  Bamidbar 9:15And on the day on which the mishkan was erected, the cloud covered the tent of witness; from the evening until morning it had the look of fire.
9:16And so it was: the cloud was always covering it; it looked like fire at night.
9:17When the cloud rose above the tent, the Children of Israel would follow it; and where the cloud stopped the Children of Israel set up camp.
9:18The Children of Israel traveled at G-d’s word, and camped at G-d’s word, throughout all of the days in which the cloud was above the mishkan they camped.עַל־פִּי ה’ יִסְעוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְעַל־פִּי ה’ יַחֲנוּ כׇּל־יְמֵי אֲשֶׁר יִשְׁכֹּן הֶעָנָן עַל־הַמִּשְׁכָּן יַחֲנוּ׃}
9:19When the cloud settled on the mishkan for many days, the Children of Israel kept the guard of G-d, and did not travel. (note:  there are many alternative translations and interpretations of this sentence)וּבְהַאֲרִיךְ הֶעָנָן עַל־הַמִּשְׁכָּן יָמִים רַבִּים וְשָׁמְרוּ בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת־מִשְׁמֶרֶת ה’ וְלֹא יִסָּעוּ׃
9:20There were times when the cloud rested on the mishkan a number of days.  At G-d’s command they camped, and on at G-d’s command they traveled.
9:21There were times in which the cloud rose after one morning and they traveled; there were times when the cloud arose after a day and a night and they traveled;וְיֵשׁ אֲשֶׁר־יִהְיֶה הֶעָנָן מֵעֶרֶב עַד־בֹּקֶר וְנַעֲלָה הֶעָנָן בַּבֹּקֶר וְנָסָעוּ אוֹ יוֹמָם וָלַיְלָה וְנַעֲלָה הֶעָנָן וְנָסָעוּ׃
9:22Or two days or a month or many days in a row the cloud rested on the mishkan ; the Children of Israel camped and did not travel.  And when it rose they traveled.
9:23At G-d’s command they camped, and at G-d’s command they traveled.  They kept G-d guard, as G-d commanded through Moshe.

Ingredients:

  • 4 wheat crackers
  • Whipped cream cheese
  • 1/2 small tomato (I use campari)

Tools:

  • Knife to cut tomato
  • Something to spread cream cheese

Instructions:

  1. Put a bit of whipped cream cheese on two edges of one of the crackers.

2. Press two of the other crackers in to form three sides of the mishkan.

3. Put some cream cheese on the forth cracker to form a cloud; place on top of mishkan.

This is how the cloud looked by day.

4. Cut a tomato in half, then cut the half into eighths (depending on the size of your tomato.

5. Arrange around the cloud to make it look like fire. You may need to remove the top temporarily so that the mishkan does not collapse, but if it does you can just put it together again.

… and this is how the cloud on top of the mishkan looked by night!
