Cohen Hands

Numbers / Bamidbar 6:22And G-d said to Moshe:וַיְדַבֵּר ה’ אֶל־מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר׃
6:23Say the following to Aharon and his sons:  This is the way you will bless the children of Israel, by saying:דַּבֵּר אֶל־אַהֲרֹן וְאֶל־בָּנָיו לֵאמֹר כֹּה תְבָרְכוּ אֶת־בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אָמוֹר לָהֶם׃ {ס}
6:24“May G-d bless you and keep/protect you.יְבָרֶכְךָ י ה’ וְיִשְׁמְרֶךָ׃ {ס}
6:25“May G-d’s countenance shine upon you and view you favorably.יָאֵר ה’  פָּנָיו אֵלֶיךָ וִיחֻנֶּךָּ׃ {ס}
6:26“May G-d focus on you, and grant you peace.”יִשָּׂא ה’  פָּנָיו אֵלֶיךָ וְיָשֵׂם לְךָ שָׁלוֹם׃ {ס}
6:27And in this way, you will put my name before the Children of Israel, and I will distinguish/bless them.וְשָׂמוּ אֶת־שְׁמִי עַל־בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַאֲנִי אֲבָרְכֵם׃ {ס}

Nature’s Nosh will be a cohen’s hand making the priestly blessing. Ingredients as shown:

  • 2 slice of a large cucumber
  • 10 baby carrots
  • 10 almond slices or pumpkin seeds (optional)
  • Hummus (or dip of your choice, optional)

Tools:

  • Knife to cut cucumber (if pre-sliced, none)

Instructions:

  1. Place the cucumber slices far enough apart to leave room for “fingers.”
  2. Arrange carrot “fingers” as is traditional for the Cohen’s blessing, forming a “V” with the two outer fingers on one side, and the remining fingers and thumb together on the other side
  3. If you want authenticity (though it looks a bit creepier) add almond or pumpkin fingernails: put one side of the wide end in the hummus and place on ends of each carrot piece.
