Genesis / Bereishit 41:1 | And after two years had passed, Pharaoh dreamt that he was standing at the Nile… |
41:2-4 | And he saw seven beautiful, fat, healthy cows emerge from the nile…followed by seven ugly, skinny cows… who then ate the healthy cows…And Pharaoh awoke.
41:5-7 | And [Pharaoh] slept, and had another dream, in which a single stalk of grain, on which were seven beautiful, healthy heads of grain … after which another stalk grew, on which were seven thin heads of grain. And the seven thin heads swallowed the seven healthy heads… And Pharaoh awoke.
Ingredients as Shown:
- 1 Persian/mini cucumber
- 1 Spanish olive
- 1 mini pepper (make sure it is large enough so the olive can fit in the top portion)
- 1 piece of seaweed
(the sizes don’t matter; only the proportions do)
Tools:
- Knife
- Scissors
- Toothpick (optional)
Instructions:
- Cut the mini pepper, as shown. The tip should be cut such that it can become a headdress for the olive. The second part will form the skirt. Trim the bottom above where the taper begins, so that a bit of flesh is left.
2. Cut out a rectangle from the tip of the pepper, and slip in the olive.
3. (this is the tricky part; you may want to leave out this step if working with young children) Cut the seaweed into strips. Dampening them as you go along, arrange them into stripes on Pharaoh’s headdress.
4. Cut a piece of the cucumber proportionally to the head. Slip into the pepper “skirt,” and insert a toothpick (toothpick is optional, it just makes things easier).
5. Trim some flesh from the bottom or take a round from the discarded trimmed part of the “skirt.” Open up and use as a pillow to steady the “head.”
6. Take two tiny pieces of seaweed, make closed eyes.
(Note: I tried to use the stem of the pepper as the snake in some Pharaoh headdresses, but was unsuccessful. If you manage, send me a photo, and tell me if I may share it! ParshaNosher@Yahoo.com.
