Eagle (Nature’s Nosh)

Yitro / יתרו : Shmot (Exodus) 18:1-20:23

Exodus 19:5: “You saw what I did to the Egyptians; I carried you on the wings of eagles, and brought you to me.”

Ingredients:

  • 7 dried apricots
  • Slivered almonds
  • 2 black sesame seeds

Tools:

  • 1 cutting knife or pair of scissors (child proof will probably work)
  • Toothpicks
  • Tweezers (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Roll one apricot to create a sphere. Secure with a toothpick. Slice the bottom off so that it is flat.

2. Take two more apricots. Either slit through the entire side, or make individual slits where you want to add slivered almond “feathers.” Insert slivered almond feathers as shown. Do the same with the outer part of the wings.

3. Attach inner wings to torso.

4. Insert another toothpick to inner wing.

5. Attach outer wing.

6. Take another dried apricot. Cut head as shown.

7. Put the flat part of he torso on your plate so that the sticky part keeps it secure. Put a toothpick through the head so that you can attach it in desired position. Secure to body; the toothpick will stick out the back. Attach black sesame seeds; they should stick to the apricot, but you may want to place them using tweezers.

8 Slide one whole apricot (or a portion, depending on the size) on the toothpick sticking out, leaving enough toothpick to attach the last apricot. Add almond slivers to one end of the last apricot, stick on the end to make a “tail.”
