| Leviticus / Vayikra 25:1 | G-d said the following to Moses: | וַיְדַבֵּר יְהֹוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה בְּהַר סִינַי לֵאמֹר׃ |
| 25:2 | Tell the children of Israel as follows: When you come to the land that I am giving you, that land itself shall observe a sabbath for G-d. | דַּבֵּר אֶל־בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְאָמַרְתָּ אֲלֵהֶם כִּי תָבֹאוּ אֶל־הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר אֲנִי נֹתֵן לָכֶם וְשָׁבְתָה הָאָרֶץ שַׁבָּת לַיהֹוָה׃ |
| 25:3 | You shall sow your fields for six years, and six years you shall prune your vineyard and gather its yield. | שֵׁשׁ שָׁנִים תִּזְרַע שָׂדֶךָ וְשֵׁשׁ שָׁנִים תִּזְמֹר כַּרְמֶךָ וְאָסַפְתָּ אֶת־תְּבוּאָתָהּ׃ |
| 25:4 | But the seventh year will be a sabbath of sabbaths for the land, which shall rest for G-d. You shall neither sow your field nor prune your vineyard. | וּבַשָּׁנָה הַשְּׁבִיעִת שַׁבַּת שַׁבָּתוֹן יִהְיֶה לָאָרֶץ שַׁבָּת לַיהֹוָה שָׂדְךָ לֹא תִזְרָע וְכַרְמְךָ לֹא תִזְמֹר׃ |
| 25:5 | You may neither reap that which is still growing in your fields or in your vinyards (such that you are saving the food to sell or for later, as would an owner). The land shall have a sabbath of sabbaths. | אֵת סְפִיחַ קְצִירְךָ לֹא תִקְצוֹר וְאֶת־עִנְּבֵי נְזִירֶךָ לֹא תִבְצֹר שְׁנַת שַׁבָּתוֹן יִהְיֶה לָאָרֶץ׃ |
| 25:6 | But you, your servants, and those who live with you may eat that which the land yields. | וְהָיְתָה שַׁבַּת הָאָרֶץ לָכֶם לְאׇכְלָה לְךָ וּלְעַבְדְּךָ וְלַאֲמָתֶךָ וְלִשְׂכִירְךָ וּלְתוֹשָׁבְךָ הַגָּרִים עִמָּךְ׃ |
| 25:7 | Furthermore, the animals that live in your land may eat all of the yield. | וְלִבְהֶמְתְּךָ וְלַחַיָּה אֲשֶׁר בְּאַרְצֶךָ תִּהְיֶה כׇל־תְּבוּאָתָהּ לֶאֱכֹל׃ {ס} |
| 25:8 | And you shall count for yourself seven counts of seven years, for a total of forty-nine years. | וְסָפַרְתָּ לְךָ שֶׁבַע שַׁבְּתֹת שָׁנִים שֶׁבַע שָׁנִים שֶׁבַע פְּעָמִים וְהָיוּ לְךָ יְמֵי שֶׁבַע שַׁבְּתֹת הַשָּׁנִים תֵּשַׁע וְאַרְבָּעִים שָׁנָה׃ |
| 25:9 | And you shall blow a shofar on the tenth day of the seventh month. On the day of atonement (Yom Kippur) you shall pass the sound of the Shofar throughout your land. | וְהַעֲבַרְתָּ שׁוֹפַר תְּרוּעָה בַּחֹדֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִעִי בֶּעָשׂוֹר לַחֹדֶשׁ בְּיוֹם הַכִּפֻּרִים תַּעֲבִירוּ שׁוֹפָר בְּכׇל־אַרְצְכֶם׃ |
| 25:10 | You shall sanctify the fiftieth year, and call for all of the inhabitants of the land to be released. You will have Yovel / Jubilee, and each person shall return to his ancestral land (even if it was previously sold). | וְקִדַּשְׁתֶּם אֵת שְׁנַת הַחֲמִשִּׁים שָׁנָה וּקְרָאתֶם דְּרוֹר בָּאָרֶץ לְכׇל־יֹשְׁבֶיהָ יוֹבֵל הִוא תִּהְיֶה לָכֶם וְשַׁבְתֶּם אִישׁ אֶל־אֲחֻזָּתוֹ וְאִישׁ אֶל־מִשְׁפַּחְתּוֹ תָּשֻׁבוּ׃ |
| 25:11 | That fiftieth year shall be a year of Jubilee / Yovel for you. You shall neither sow nor reap, nor harvest untrimmed vines. | יוֹבֵל הִוא שְׁנַת הַחֲמִשִּׁים שָׁנָה תִּהְיֶה לָכֶם לֹא תִזְרָעוּ וְלֹא תִקְצְרוּ אֶת־סְפִיחֶיהָ וְלֹא תִבְצְרוּ אֶת־נְזִרֶיהָ׃ |
| 25:12 | Because the [year of] Jubilee / Yovel shall be dedicated/sanctified for you; you may [only] eat directly from the fields. | כִּי יוֹבֵל הִוא קֹדֶשׁ תִּהְיֶה לָכֶם מִן־הַשָּׂדֶה תֹּאכְלוּ אֶת־תְּבוּאָתָהּ׃ |
Ingredients as shown:
- 7 Pistachios (or anything green: grapes, jelly beans celery, etc.)
- 28 pieces of cereal (or nuts)
- 7 golden raisins (or anything orange: carrot pieces, orange slices, jelly beans, etc.)
- 8 craisins (or anything red: tomatoes, raspberries, strawberries, still more jelly beans)
- 1 slice of banana (or a foil-covered chocolate, or apple slice, or piece of yellow pepper; anything that goes with but is larger than your RED item).
Instructions:
- Build your years: start with a GREEN item to show the first year of planting in the cycle.
- Follow with four BROWN items, during which one plants and sows and can expect to reap the harvest from the prior year’s planting.
- Follow with one ORANGE item, during which one knows that what you sow may not be reaped the following year.
- Follow with one RED item, for the year during which one may neither sow nor reap (in a way that would indicate ownership) but merely take what you need to eat at the time.
- Finally, take the remaining large item and RED item. Place at the end. This is the year of JUBILEE /Yovel. Place your green items one above the other, to Make a 7 x 7 grid of cheerios.
