Yitro / יתרו : Shmot (Exodus) 18:1-20:23
Exodus 19:5: “You saw what I did to the Egyptians; I carried you on the wings of eagles, and brought you to me.”
Ingredients:
- 4 marshmallows
- 2 golden raisins
- 2 black sesame seeds
- Powdered sugar
Tools:
- 1 pair of scissors (child proof will probably work)
- Toothpicks
- Tweezers (optional)
Instructions:
BEFORE MAKING ANY CUTTING, DIP SCISSORS INTO POWDERED SUGAR BAG TO PREVENT SCISSORS FROM STICKING.
1. Cut one flat edge from one marshmallow to reveal sticky side (it will still be sticky after you have dipped your scissors in the powdered sugar). Stick on your plate.
2. Cut flat edge from a second marshmallow and place on top of the first.
3. Take a third marshmallow, cut on the diagonal. Dip the cut end in powdered sugar.
4. Taking care to dip scissors in between each cut, cut the larger end into “feathers.” Place behind the “torso.”
5. Stick a toothpick through the top of the “torso” to support wings.
6. Cut a marshmallow crosswise into 5 even slices. Squeeze the center one into the shape of a head, and attach a sesame seed eye. Dip the other slices in powdered sugar, and cut feathers as shown.
7. Separate feathers. Slide inner wings onto toothpick. Cut edges of raisins into toes, place before “torso.”
8. Add a toothpick in desired position, attach outer wing.
9. Cut edge off of “head” to expose sticky part. Shape beak as desired. Attach to top of “torso.”
