Snack ideas children can make themselves, even on Shabbat,* taken from the weekly parsha. Use as an opening to a lesson, or as an end in itself!

Exodus 19:5: “You saw what I did to the Egyptians; I carried you on the wings of eagles, and brought you to me.”

I always try to make sure children can make the Parsha Noshers themselves. My first attempts are usually the simplest, and often work just fine! It is really far more important that the children have FUN and feel good about what they did than that they make something worthy of a museum; after all, the snack will only last a few minutes until it is eaten!

For each snack shown above you will need:

  • 1 apple (1 apple will be enough for TWO snacks
  • 1 almond.

Instructions:

  • Cut two sides of the apple so that you have whole rounds. Slice thinly to make wings.
  • Cut the remaining sides to make the center
  • Choose one “wing” and cut to make the tail
  • Arrange as shown.
