Helping your Enemy with his Fallen Donkey (Shabbos Stash)

Torah

Exodus 23:5: “When you see the donkey of your enemy unable to stand due to its load, …

you have to help him,

even if you do not want to do so.” (loose translation)

(who knows? Maybe you’ll make a friend! Either way, we do what is right BECAUSE IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO. What did that donkey do to you?

Goodbye! Have a great day! So glad I could help!

Ingredients:

  • 1 large marshmallow
  • 2 animal crackers representing people
  • 1 animal cracker representing a donkey
  • Powdered sugar (to avoid sticking)

Tools:

  • Scissors (child proof ok)

Instructions:

BEFORE MAKING ANY CUTTING, DIP SCISSORS INTO POWDERED SUGAR BAG TO PREVENT SCISSORS FROM STICKING. The marshmallow will retain enough stickiness to do what is needed, but otherwise you will not be able to separate it from the scissors.

  1. Cut marshmallow through narrow part of oval as shown, so that one half is the right size to form the oversized load for the donkey.

2. Cut a slit in one half so that it fits over the “donkey” animal cracker.

3. Place the marshmallow half over the “donkey” animal cracker.

4. Slice thin slices off the second marshmallow half, gently press to front and back of “people” animal crackers to help them stand up.

6. Do the same to the “donkey” when you are ready for it to stand. The single marshmallow half should form enough “feet.”
