Twins Lunchbox

Bereishit / Genesis 25:24When her time before birth was complete, there were twins in her belly.
וַיִּמְלְאוּ יָמֶיהָ לָלֶדֶת וְהִנֵּה תוֹמִם בְּבִטְנָהּ׃

25:25The first one emerged covered with red hair, and they called him Eisav.
וַיֵּצֵא הָרִאשׁוֹן אַדְמוֹנִי כֻּלּוֹ כְּאַדֶּרֶת שֵׂעָר וַיִּקְרְאוּ שְׁמוֹ עֵשָׂו׃

25:26And then his brother emerged…וְאַחֲרֵי־כֵן יָצָא אָחִיו …׃

Ingredients as Shown:

  • Sandwich:
    • Bread
    • Avocado
    • Cucumbers
    • 1 Hard boiled Egg
    • 2 small Mozzarella balls
    • Paprika or your favorite red spice mix (I make a mix of sweet (not smoked) paprika, granulated onion, granulated garlic, pepper, and salt and use it constantly on everything).
    • 4 black sesame seeds
  • Sugar snap peas
  • 2 different colored apples

Instructions :

This will vary depending on the size and shape of your lunch box and bread. You may also prefer to use something else under the eggs and cheese. It still has to taste good to the eater!

  1. Put what you want to go on the sandwich under the eggs and cheese. In my case, it was mashed avocado followed by sliced cucumbers, but make it what you want!

2. Cut hardboiled egg in half. Decide how to arrange the two babies. Place hardboiled egg halves in place, sprinkle your paprika or spice mixture on ONE of the eggs.

3. Place cheese balls, add sesame seed eyes. In case it isn’t clear, the paprika-sprinkled one is Eisav/Esau. The other one is Ya’akov/Jacob.

4. Place in your lunch container.

5. Add “fraternal apples”: Take apples of two different colors. Cut the first, round slice from each of about the same size. Set aside. Cut the other apples to fill the container, top with the two ends.

6. Add sugar snap peas or edamame, to symbolize peas in a pod. Yes, that is more for identical twins, but I liked it… willing to listen to YOUR ideas!

7. If it is standard sandwich height, this should be tight enough to hold everything in place. You can surround your babies with sprouts if you wish.

Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that the closed sandwich I had underneath (my kids are now teens, so they need two sandwiches) was a bit too high, so my “babies” got a bit squished.
