Back when my children were little and I created the “Shabbos Stash” concept, I used jelly beans all of the time, and always Jelly Bellies. I could get them in a large container at Costco (I had a whole class, so it was worth it). They were kosher, cheap, came in all sorts of colors, were sticky inside but not so sticky as to be difficult to use, I could cut them into shapes, and were, in short, a wonderful medium.
8 years later I finally started this web site. Back to the Jelly Bellies, but this time I found they were hard, and I have to push so hard to get them to stick that I break the feet of my little bear crackers.
But then, this time I was getting the jelly beans from the bulk bins, as I didn’t need that many.
Do any of you know if Jelly Belly has changed? I need jelly beans for this week’s snack, but don’t know if it is a great idea for me to go back to Costco for them. I am afraid they will either go stale before they are used, or one of my children will be a “little mouse” and they will disappear. Neither of those would be great.
Maybe I will try Trader Joe’s.
OR, I may start using dried fruit instead. Those are shelf stable, too.
Any thoughts?
