Sleeping Pharaoh in Bed

This snack was made long ago. To be honest, I cannot remember how I made the headdress in the second photo (I think it was sour straws?), so new instructions are included, copying the other Pharaoh instructions. Also (and I may be wrong) the jelly beans I used to use were very sticky inside and stuck to things easily; they no longer seem to stick well, which is why I switched to raisins, craisins, etc.

The main purpose of including this Parsha Nosh was to show how to make a bed and paint the skirt on to Pharaoh, if you choose to do that.

Genesis / Bereishit 41:1And after two years had passed, Pharaoh dreamt that he was standing at the Nile…
41:2-4And he saw seven beautiful, fat, healthy cows emerge from the nile…followed by seven ugly, skinny cows… who then ate the healthy cows…And Pharaoh awoke.
41:5-7And [Pharaoh] slept, and had another dream, in which a single stalk of grain, on which were seven beautiful, healthy heads of grain … after which another stalk grew, on which were seven thin heads of grain.  And the seven thin heads swallowed the seven healthy heads… And Pharaoh awoke.

Ingredients as Shown:

  • Powdered Sugar
  • 2 Graham Cracker Sheets
  • Fruit leather, 2 colors (I used orange and green) (can be shared, depending on size)
  • 1 Gingerbread man
  • 1 small bear shaped cookie
  • 1 raisin

Tools:

  • 1 small bowl
  • Small spoon
  • Scissors

Instructions:

  1. Put powdered sugar in a bowl (maybe 1/3 cup). Add water, a few drops at a time, mixing well, until you just form a thick paste.
  2. Snap one of the graham cracker sheets in half.* Using the spoon, drizzle the sugar along the seam. Position the full sheet perpendicular to the snapped graham cracker, along the sugar glue, and steady with two bowls until dry.** The thicker your sugar glue, the less time this will take.

3. Make your Pharaoh, following steps 1-3 of “Pharaoh with Teddy Bear.” Decide if you want him to be with a blanket or skirt. If with a skirt, use the same sugar glue to pain it onto Pharaoh.

4. When the first part of the bed is dry, snap the remaining half of the graham cracker in half again. Drizzle the sugar paste onto one long edge of graham cracker. Place it underneath the foot of the “bed,” and sit it straight. If the head is dry, this should require no additional support.

5. Place Pharaoh on the bed, and, if using, cover with blanket.

* In the second example photo above, you see a pillow made of painted on sugar glue. If you wish to give Pharaoh a pillow, do so here, and allow to dry before moving forward.

**Optional: if you want to be VERY esthetic, you may want to cut the second graham cracker to be proportionate to your gingerbread man. However, the graham crackers tend to break, so I would not advise it.
