Levi

Levi flag: the Choshen.

Bamidbar / Numbers 1:52And the Children of Israel set up camp in groups [by tribe], each man under the colors [of the tribal flag].וְחָנוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אִישׁ עַל־מַחֲנֵהוּ וְאִישׁ עַל־דִּגְלוֹ לְצִבְאֹתָם׃
1:53But the Levi tribe camped around the Mishkan in order to avoid community strive, and protected the Mishkan.וְהַלְוִיִּם יַחֲנוּ סָבִיב לְמִשְׁכַּן הָעֵדֻת וְלֹא־יִהְיֶה קֶצֶף עַל־עֲדַת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְשָׁמְרוּ הַלְוִיִּם אֶת־מִשְׁמֶרֶת מִשְׁכַּן הָעֵדוּת׃
2:2…the Children of Israel camped around the Tent of Meeting…. …יַחֲנוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל מִנֶּגֶד סָבִיב לְאֹהֶל־מוֹעֵד יַחֲנוּ׃
2:17With the Levi tribe in the center, with the Tent of Meeting, carried by the Levi tribe. Each mane under his [ancestral] flag.
וְנָסַע אֹהֶל־מוֹעֵד מַחֲנֵה הַלְוִיִּם בְּתוֹךְ הַמַּחֲנֹת כַּאֲשֶׁר יַחֲנוּ כֵּן יִסָּעוּ אִישׁ עַל־יָדוֹ לְדִגְלֵיהֶם׃ 

Ingredients as shown:

  • 1 Graham Cracker
  • Powdered sugar
  • Chocolate spread or chocolate milk mix
  • Jelly beans
  • Red powdered sugar

Tools:

  • Bowl
  • Spoon
  • Knife

Instructions:

1. Put the powdered sugar in the bowl. Barely dampen, enough to make a thick paste. Note that the sugar will shrink down in the water.

2. Spread the sugar paste thinly on the center of the graham cracker.

3. Sprinkle red sprinkles or colored sugar on the center.

4. Add stipes of chocolate spread or slightly dampened cocoa powder mix.

5. More sugar glue on the outer edges…

6. Add jelly beans to represent the 12 tribes (cut in half or don’t, up to you (I did)…et voila’! Information on the colors of the actual choshen is in parashat Tetzave.
