Jacob Putting Angel in Headlock

Genesis 32:25And Ya’akov was left alone.  And a man struggled with him until dawn.
32:26And [the man] saw he cannot overcome [Ya’akov]; and [the man] touched [Ya’akov’s] hip joint and dislocated it while wrestling with [Ya’akov].
32:27And [the man] said:  “release me, because dawn is coming.”  And [Ya’akov] said “I will not release you unless you bless me.”
32:28And [the man] asked “What is your name,” and [Ya’akov] answered “Ya’akov.”
32:29And [the man] said, “You will no longer be called Ya’akov, but rather Yisrael, because you struggled with G-d and with men, and prevailed.
32:30And Ya’akov said “Please tell me your name,” and [the man] said “Why do you ask my name?” and blessed him [Ya’akov/Yisrael] there.

Ingredients as Shown:

  • 2 Gingerbread Men
  • 2 small pretzels
  • 1 Prune or raisin
  • 1 Craisin

Tools:

  • Knife

Instructions:

ON SECOND THOUGHT (though placing above the instructions), it may be easier to add the raisin or prune eyes and craisin mouth to both gingerbread men (have them laying on a flat surface to avoid them breaking), and then proceeding with the rest of the craft as shown.

  1. Using one of the gingerbread men as a guide, lay down the mini pretzels as shown to form wings. Place gingerbread man on top as shown.

2. Pick up gingerbread man and lay on a flat surface (otherwise it may break). Cut bits of raisin or prune to make eyes. Press on to gingerbread man sticky side down. Add a bit of craisin to form a mouth, pressing on to gingerbread man sticky side down. Return the gingerbread man to his wings.

3. Stap legs off of the second gingerbread man as shown.

4. Place the second gingerbread man behind the “angel.” Put the snapped off legs on the shoulders of the other to make the headlock. Here, I changed the mouth to show the angel’s distress.

5. Add eyes and mouth to second gingerbread man, as you did for the first one.

My thanks to my daughter Haya for thinking of and figuring out this ParshaNosh.
