Mishkan (Shabbos Stash)

Torah

*Vayakhel / וַיַּקְהֵלExodus  35:1-38:20

Parashat Vayakhel describes the building of the Mishkan, illustrated in this Shabbos Stash Parsha Nosh. The description is too long to copy, but reading is worthwhile!

This project used quite a bit of my Shabbos Stash ingredients, but please feel free to mix and match!

Ingredients as shown:

  • Small Pretezel Sticks
  • 1/2 Fruit Leather Roll
  • 1 Fruit Roll Strip (you could cut the other half of the fruit leather roll
  • 2-3 large marshmallows
  • Powdered sugar for cutting marshmallows
  • 2 small pieces of licorice ( had one yellow and one red)
  • (NOTE: IF I WERE TO DO IT AGAIN, I WOULD USE TWO GRAHAM CRACKERS AND AN EXTRA MARSHMALLOW INSTEAD OF THE LICORICE)

Tools:

  • knife
  • scissors

Instructions as shown:

  1. Unroll the fruit leather roll. Snap pretzel sticks to slightly longer than the height of the roll (which will form walls). Place the pretzel sticks, one at a time, on the fruit leather roll, trying to line up one end approximately with what will be the bottom edge of the wall. Fold over the fruit leather roll to stick to itself, repeat down the line of the roll. Steps illustrated below.

2. Cut one marshmallow in half lengthwise, then each half into four half-circles. Stick one half-circle to either side of the pretzel sticks as needed to hold up the wall. You may need to use a part of a second marshmallow for this, depending on the length of your “wall.”

3. Cut a new marshmallow in half lengthwise, then each in half again.

4. Place flat side down where you want the four corners of the Tent of Meeting.

5 Use scissors to snip a hold in the marshmallows, and insert pretzel sticks snapped to desired length. (Note that after I initially placed the marshmallows, I realized I wanted to move the marshmallows, so that they are in a different place in the second photo)

6. Cut the fruit leather roll to create the cover to the Tent of Meeting.

7. Gently fold and place on top of pretzels to form the Tent of Meeting.

8. To make the sacrificial alter and ramp, cut one piece of licorice as desired, snap a pretzel stick into two equal pieces, and lean them on the piece of licorice to form a ramp.

9. If desired, add the screen. I recommend using a craker instead, but what I did was to cut the piece into a zigzag as shown, and opened it.

10. Place at entrance of Mishkan!
