Numbers / Bamidbar 15:37 | And G-d said to Moshe: |
15:38 | Speak to the children if Israel, and tell them to put fringes on the corners of their clothes for all generations, and to include in the fringes a blue thread.
15:39 | And you will have these fringes, and see them, and remember to all of my commandments, keep them. And you will not wander off after your hearts and eyes, which tempt you.
15:40 | So that you will remember and keep all of my commandments, and be holy to your god. |
15:41 | I am Ad-nai your god, who took you out of the land of Egypt to be your god. I am Ad-nai your god.
Ingredients as shown:
- 1 graham cracker sheet
- Powdered sugar
- 1 large marshmallow
- Blue sprinkles or blue colored sugar (preferred, I just didn’t have it)
Tools:
- Small bowl
- Spoon or knife for mixing and spreading
- Scissors
- Piece of paper or foil or plastic (anything flexible and somewhat rigid)
Instructions:
- Mix about 2 T powdered sugar with just enough water to make a paste. Spread evenly on the graham cracker sheet.
2. Make a collar: either freehand or by bending your paper or foil or piece of plastic (I had the torn-off top to a bag of nuts handy, so that is what I used), sprinkle your blue sugar or sprinkles on one edge to form the collar.
3. Add two more stripes to finalize the Tallit, sans fringes.
4. Dipping your scissors into powdered sugar between each cut, cut four pieces off of the marshmallow, about 1 inch length. Make each piece about 1/3″ wide, though you can add extra pieces. Slice each piece lengthwise NOT ALL THE WAY, to form fringes. OPTIONAL: if you are using colored sugar, you may want to cut an extra piece, dip in the blue sugar, and add to each corner. I didn’t have it so didn’t add it.
SPECIAL THANKS TO MY COUSIN DAVID AND HIS WONDERFUL WIFE DEMI, WHO LEANT ME THEIR KITCHEN AND INGREDIENTS SO THAT I COULD MAKE THIS ParshaNosh while visiting them!
